Router/Ports Configuration

Softel vdm, Inc.

The Router/Ports Configuration panel is used to define router and port settings of your TV Server

Port settings are responsible for remote and local access to your TV Server. Router settings have no effect on local network traffic on your home network, but a router will stop all incoming Internet traffic from getting on your home network, unless the traffic is in response to one of your computers (or when using port forwarding).

Connections to your TV Server (from your Pocket PC, laptop or desktop) arrive initially on the "Server Port", once connected, the next incoming connection is for the "Video Port". You can define the port numbers explicitly, or you can determine the available port numbers automatically. The port numbers are used for both local and remote access.

If you access your TV Server while you are on the road (i.e., remotely), your router must be configured correctly, otherwise connections will be rejected. In most cases, your TV Server can configure your router for you automatically (select "Configure Router Automatically When TV Server Starts"). If your router doesn't support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) or UPnP is not enabled, you will have to define port forwarding manually (for additional information please visit our "On The Road" board in our online forum at http://www.mytinytv.com/forum).
