Version 2.0 Is Now Available!

What Is New In 2.0?

Now laptops, notebooks, desktops, anything that runs Windows XP (and of course Windows Server 2003, Windows Media Center 2005) can be used to watch TV. Just like with your Pocket PC, your laptop or desktop can connect to your TV Server across a local network, using WiFi or across the Internet, halfway around the world.

We have added support for digital cable and satellite. However, MyTinyTV only supports analog TV tuners, so we have to use an Infrared Blaster to change the channel on your settop box. Unfortunately, TV tuners that can directly receive digital cable or satellite do not yet exist (in the US). Currently, we support only one Infrared Blaster (named USB-UIRT), which is available for purchase directly from us and from the manufacturer. If we receive technical information for some of the TV tuners that have built in Infrared Transmitters, we will add support for these in future minor versions (2.01, 2.02, etc). These will be free upgrades to purchasers of MyTinyTV 1.0 and 2.0.

MyTinyTV listings arrive quite a bit faster on your Pocket PC, as we have made significant changes to the TV Server. This is particularly noticeable with huge channel lineups (particularly with digital cable and satellite).

The TV Server will automatically configure your router (depending on router model - Universal Plug & Play support is required and must be enabled on the router), so you can access MyTinyTV remotely. You no longer need to define port forwarding or DMZ.

The TV Server can determine free (video and server) ports automatically, so conflicts with any other software installed on your system are avoided. (1.0 allowed you to change the port settings, but it was a manual process).

The TV Configuration Wizard has been updated to allow certain analog video capture cards (without TV tuner), so they can be used with MyTinyTV. This is usually only useful for satellite or digital cable setups, where the capture card is used to receive the Composite/SVideo signal.

The TV Server can now also be used to redefine or determine the email/password combination to "Find" your MyTinyTV TV Server.

Unfortunately, there still may not be anything worthwhile to watch on TV.
