USB-UIRT Infrared Transmitter

An infrared transmitter is only required for digital cable or satellite setups where you have to use a settop box. For antenna and analog cable, you do not need an infrared transmitter.

Before purchasing an Infrared Transmitter, make sure to test MyTinyTV with your current hardware. You can configure and install MyTinyTV without an Infrared Transmitter. While you won't be able to change channels with MyTinyTV, you can still use your remote control.

If you receive your TV signal via satellite or a cable box, the USB-UIRT Infrared Transmitter allows MyTinyTV to change the channel on your settop box.

This easy to install USB device simply plugs into your computer (your MyTinyTV TV Server with the TV tuner card). From your settop box you connect a coax, SVideo or Composite cable to your analog TV tuner card in your computer.

The infrared transmitter is positioned in front of your settop box so MyTinyTV can send commands to your settop box. These "commands" are identical to the codes your remote control sends.

During installation of MyTinyTV, you will "teach" MyTinyTV the codes your remote control sends to change the channel. This is an easy process that takes just a minute. This also means that most settop boxes that use an infrared remote will work without any problems.

Or, if you prefer, you can use a small stick-on emitter that attaches directly to your settop box. The stick-on emitter connects to your USB-UIRT. That way, you don't have to worry about the correct positioning of your USB-UIRT infrared transmitter. And, you will still be able to use your remote control, because the stick-on emitter still lets your remote control's commands through.

Please note that because you are controlling your settop box, you will not be able to use MyTinyTV and your regular TV at the same time. One settop box can only provide a signal for one TV at a time. This applies to both digital cable and satellite settop boxes. However, with digital cable you usually also receive analog cable so you could use analog reception (the channels below 100) while still using your settop box with MyTinyTV.
